Costs

Federal Programs

All students must demonstrate need as determined by the University Financial Aid office in accordance with the criteria established by the federal government.

1. Federal Perkins Loan

This loan program enables students to borrow an aggregate of $30,000, including undergraduate loans, at five percent simple interest. Repayment of principal and interest begins nine months after graduation or when the student is no longer enrolled at least half-time.

2. Stafford Loan Program

Case Western Reserve University is a lender for these long-term loans at a variable interest rate. A student in good academic standing, who demonstrates need, may borrow a maximum of $8,500 in on e academic year, to a maximum of $65,500 including undergraduate loans. Repayment begins six months after graduation or when the student is no longer enrolled at least half-time. A student who, after the results of need analysis, has not demonstrated need may qualify for an unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loan.

3. Federal Stafford Unsubsidized Loan

Case Western Reserve University is a lender for this program, through which graduate and professional students in good academic standing may borrow up to $30,000 in an academic year. Borrowers are responsible for the accruing interest from the time the loan proceeds are disbeursed; however, the interest is not capitalized while the borrower is in school.

4. Health Professions Student Loans (HPSL).

This loan program enables full-time students with financial need (parental resources must be considered) to borrow the cost of tuition plus $2,500, at five percent simple interest. Availability of funds and financial need determine the loan amount. Repayment is made over a ten-year period beginning 12 months after raduation or when the student is no longer enrolled at least half-time.

5. College Work-Study Program (CWSP).

The CWSP promotes part-time employment for students with financial need. The employer pays part of the student's salary, and the federal government subsidizes the rest of the salary.

University Financial Assistance Programs

School of Dental Medicine Scholarships

The school offers scholarships to attract highly qualified applicants. Scholarship support is available to students who demonstrate outstanding scholastic achievement and professional potential.

Federal Assistance Requiring Service Commitments

Armed Services Scholarship Program

The Army, Air Force, and Navy permit selected students to be commissioned as officers in their programs. Terms and conditions of each branch scholarship program are available from the Health Professions recruiter for that specific branch of the service.
