School of Dental Medicine: Giving

From the Dean

Dean Jerold S. Goldberg, D.D.S ‘70

The School of Dental Medicine is, indeed, at a turning point. With the announcement of Forward Thinking: The Campaign for Case Western Reserve University, President Barbara R. Snyder and the Board of Trustees launched a $1 billion campus-wide fundraising effort that includes our $32 million initiative. Bringing both momentum and national reach to our school’s vision, this extraordinary opportunity is aptly named Discovering the Future of Dental Medicine.

You will read here about the centerpiece of the dental school’s plans — a state-of-the-art addition that will allow us to expand our growing research enterprise, maximize our teaching model, and bring a new level of care to our patients and the community. Equally important, the campaign will provide scholarship funding to garner top-notch students and endow faculty positions so that we can continue to attract the very best teachers and researchers in our profession.

This is an incredibly exciting time to be associated with the school. Implemented by the outstanding faculty, our strategic plan has resulted in more than 15 years of responsible growth. Given our demonstrated ability to take major steps forward, we are well positioned for this endeavor. Because continuously emerging technologies and research-based knowledge demand that we keep pace, we have made impressive advances in the practice of dentistry (with a focus on patient care and overall health), dental pedagogy, and research — ensuring our leadership position for the betterment of students, patients, and our profession.

Our success will require the participation of many.

I extend my deep gratitude to the volunteer leadership of this transformational project and personally invite you to join us. Encouraged by the collective effort and individual generosity to date, I am confident that we will not only reach our goal, but set a new standard for the future of the art and science of dental medicine.
