Operating in its current building since 1969, our school now requires expanded, technologically-adaptable space that is designed to take full advantage of the remarkable advances that have been made over the past 40 years. The proposed 36,000-square-foot addition will be built on top of the existing clinics and provide an impressive, visually appealing presence with a welcoming main entrance on the corner of Circle Drive and Cornell Road, complete with a spacious visitor-friendly lobby.
The addition includes a dedicated research floor to support the work of world-class faculty researchers and student projects, as well as mixed-use space for classrooms, faculty offices, and flexible room for growth that will extend the usefulness of the building for many years to come. This will be particularly important as the existing patient clinics are renovated over time.
Designed by the global firm Stantec Architects — renowned for its expertise in healthcare and educational facilities — the addition will promote interdisciplinary research and provide a dynamic teaching environment. Students will benefit from a facility that puts practical experience side-by-side with leading-edge discoveries. With groundbreaking set for 2013, completion is anticipated in 2015.
