The School of Dental Medicine encourages its students to pursue research opportunities within the school as well as those that are not directly sponsored by the School. Please feel free to browse the active research projects (link to SoDM Research Index page) to see what our faculty are doing. The research faculty are a great source of information and are able to offer helpful advice and answer any questions you might have about research at the University.

If you would like to browse some of the possible funding opportunities available to students, the University subscribes to Pivot. Pivot is a searchable database of funding opportunities around the world. Your search can be as broad or as specific as you would like and you can set up automatic searches to have results sent directly to your inbox. Check it out at

Please note that the School has procedures in place to assist you with research applications. If you are interested in any of the opportunities listed and plan to apply, you must follow the following steps to ensure that the process moves efficiently. Failure to follow these steps may result in application delays and forfeiture of awarded funds.

    1. Start early and don't be afraid to ask for help! A good application comes from careful organization and planning. Increase your chances of success by starting early! Seek out help from faculty and staff. Talk to your professors, colleagues who have been successful, and others on campus and let them critique your application. The more people that read it, the better it will be.
    2. Many of these opportunities require a faculty mentor or department approval. Discuss the program with your mentor or the Department Chair to determine the scientific needs of the project, if applicable, and cooperation of the department.
    3. Once you have approval from your mentor or department, please get in touch with Tricia Ribeiro in the Office of Finance and Operations in the First Floor Administration Area as soon as possible. She can be reached via Any funding that comes from outside the SoDM needs to be approved by this office before it goes to the sponsor.

If you have any questions, please contact the Office of Finance and Operations at They will be able to guide you and direct you to the correct people to ensure a smooth submission.
